Two months ago, I had surgery for a herniated disc in my neck… Actually, the neck pain had progressed to numbness and nerve damage in my arms, and I lived with a neck brace for a long time. Every hospital and doctor I went to misled me. I went to places where they said this doctor was the best, but they told me I needed surgery, that they couldn't do it, that it was risky, and they scared me… One morning, while doing research, I came across Professor Akın Uğraş. I went to his office, hunched over, and as I entered, I was absolutely determined that I would never have surgery if they mentioned it again. But Professor Akın informed me so well, explaining everything based on my MRI scans. He said there was nothing to be afraid of, that it was risky, but you don't get scared when you're with an experienced doctor who has performed more surgeries in their field. That's exactly what happened to me. He reassured me so much, I trusted him completely, and we discussed the earliest possible surgery date, and finally, I had the operation. Professor Akın and his wife, neurosurgeons, performed the surgery together. They followed the process so meticulously that believe me, it's been 2 months now, and there's no trace of my old condition. My hunched posture has improved, the herniated disc pressing on the nerve is gone, and my quality of life has increased. Many people told me not to have the surgery, that I would be disabled and never recover, but that wasn't the case at all. I'm perfectly fine, healthy, and there's no pain anymore. The recovery process takes 3 days, by the way, and then I was able to continue my normal life. I am very, very grateful to Professor Akın, his wife, and their staff. First of all, I would like to start by expressing my gratitude to Professor Akın and his assistants, who have never left my side during this 4-month period since my surgery. With 25 years of aviation experience, I suffered from numerous spinal problems, including spinal slippage, two herniated discs, osteoarthritis, etc., which I tried to alleviate senselessly with painkillers for 7 years, until I lost the mobility of my left leg. When I was diagnosed with the need for emergency surgery, I met Professor Akın, who, along with his wife, has performed countless surgeries in this field, thanks to references from spine professors. This meeting has become one of the "thank goodness" moments in my life. Because I had previously done professional kickboxing and similar strenuous sports, I thought I would never return to my former self. Now, in my 4th month, I am doing so many exercises that strain my back—exercises I was afraid to tell my doctor about—which is surely proof of how successful the surgery was. I cannot thank Professor Akın and his wife, neurosurgeon Sevda Uğraş, enough. Every morning when I wake up pain-free, I want to know that you have received my prayers… I wish you long lives so that you may bring healing to those who are ill and always be in our lives.
