Human Reflections Life is not measured by years , but by the moments that give us life all over again. More than twelve years have passed since my life-changing journey when God blessed me with a liver transplant in Turkey . A journey that stood between life and death, yet granted me a new life and a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be human. In this life, a person is not measured by what they own, but by what they leave in the hearts of others. For the most beautiful legacy we leave behind is not something seen, but something deeply felt and touched. So be kind , as life is too short to be lived with harshness. At one point in my life, I stood at the fragile line between staying and departing when doctors in Bahrain told me my days were numbered, and that my only hope lay in an urgent journey one I might never return from. With the coordination of my medical team in Bahrain suggested to me to consult a special surgeon on his visit to Bahrain as they came to a conclusion that my disease was a hopeless case .Then I met a doctor who was visiting Bahrain to follow up with his previous transplant patients. Our meeting lasted only a few minutes , yet those minutes were enough to change the course of my life. That meeting was with Prof. DR . Yaman Tokat, the world-renowned liver transplant Turkish surgeon,worked at The Florence Nightingale Hospital, in Istanbul-Turkey a truly remarkable human being , highly skilled and precise, with golden hands that move like scissors , yet carry within them the mercy of life. He looked at me at quick glance sincerely and said, without hesitation: “Look Ahmed ! You don’t have much time left to live.” It was a harsh moment , one that shook my body before before my heart. Yet, between fear and hesitation, there was a quiet voice within me calling for trust. And after a moment of surrender to God, I chose to place my life in his hands , and move forward. After God granted me survival , the day came for my discharge from the hospital. I met him in his office as he signed my discharge paperwork for my to return back home . I said to him, with words that carried all my gratitude: “Thank you Prof for everything you have done for me . This may be our last meeting, and perhaps we may never meet again.” He raised his head calmly, smiled with confidence, and said: “Trust me, Ahmed… we will always meet, and our connection will only end when either of us passes away.” And indeed , we remain connected to this day. In fact, my most recent contact with him was this very morning, when I sent him my blood test results for his guidance and advice. We also continue to exchange morning greetings and general conversations almost daily via WhatsApp, even though he left the hospital he once worked at years ago and now practices at his own institution. Since that moment , I realized that some people are not measured by the time they spend in our lives, but by the impact they leave and the moment in which they give life back to us. His words have stayed with me ever since reminding me that life is not merely the years we live,but the souls we encounter that change us in ways we never expect. For some people do not simply pass through our lives… they write a new meaning within them and remain, even when paths diverge. So, my deepest gratitude to my hero the kind and remarkable human being who after God’s will became the reason I was given a new life and a second birth. Prof. Yaman Tokat is not only the highest-level professional, but also an amazing person, who gives his each patient feeling of safety, feeling of being heard and cared, as the most precious ones. One thing is being cured, being operated, but another, how and with whom you go through the way. Dr. Yaman and his wonderful team has become a family for me, during these 9 years. I will never be able to find appropriate words to express my gratitude to them ❤️ God bless you Dr. Yaman, a man with golden hands and golden heart ❤️
